Graves damaged in Co Down
Police in Downpatrick have appealed for information after a number of graves were extensively damaged at a graveyard in Saintfield. The damage was reported at 8.50am this morning. Seven gravestones were damaged at the graveyard belonging to the First Presbyterian Church on Main Street were damaged and twelve clay flowerpots were also smashed causing an estimated £4,000 worth of damage. A police spokesperson commented: "This is a sickening attack that not only showed a complete disregard for the church and the cemetery but also the feelings of the families whose who`s loved ones graves have been damaged, several of which will need to be completely replaced because of the extent of the damage caused to them." Police at Downpatrick are keen to hear from members of the public who may have any information about this incident or who may know who was involved.
