Homes attacked in west Belfast

Houses on Ringford Crescent were attacked An Ulster Unionist councillor in west Belfast has appealed to nationalist community leaders to try to help prevent attacks on homes in the Suffolk area. Chris McGimpsey made the comment after the home of a young mother and several cars were attacked on Ringford Crescent on Saturday night. The police said a front door and a car were damaged on Ringford Crescent at about 0130 BST on Saturday. The police said that later at about 0700 BST two cars were found to have been damaged in Horn Drive in the mainly nationalist Lenadoon area. They said they arrested two men who are being questioned. Community appeal Mr McGimpsey said a gang of youths forced their way into the Protestant woman's house during the disturbances. He appealed to the mainly nationalist community living in Suffolk to help safeguard their Protestant neighbours. "This was a single parent who was attacked with three young children in her home and her house was forcibly entered by a gang of about a dozen nationalist youths," he told BBC Radio Ulster. "So we've got to try to do something to secure the periphery of this estate and I would appeal to the decent Catholic and nationalist neighbours across the road to do everything they can to let us live in peace."Saturday, 19 October, 2002
