Why is it that community activists find it of great importance to encourage governments and residents to block a peaceful, non threatening and non-confrontational religious procession, a cultural tradition, from returning peacefully from a christian worship service along a route which has been used traditionally without complaint for over a century?

The media has already discovered that the recent antagonism supports neither peace nor democracy in Northern Ireland. What then, is the purpose of this hostility toward fellow citizens who just happen to be of a different cultural tradition?
